Standard series

Simply by changing the bow,

you will begin to produce

sounds of different quality.

Without exaggeration, the excellence of a bow is determined by the quality of the wood stick.
When choosing the wood, we never allow any material that is less than perfect for a bow to enter our manufacturing process. Only one third of all prepared materials pass our strict screening process and are then classified into different ranks.
To be able to play excellently, one needs to choose the instrument carefully.
We offer a full lineup of bows for a wide range of players from beginners to veterans, helping them to overcome the technical challenges of playing their instrument.
We encourage you to choose a higher grade of bow as you become more proficient.

● Bows with a Neo Brazil wood stick

The most affordable of our bows in each category use the best Neo Brazil wood, which is ranked next only to Phernambuco. “Neo” implies a new beginning or restarting.
These products are ideal for trial use by beginners or by those who are starting to practice again.
Like the highest grade models, these bows come with an ebony frog. The stick is made to be strong. When you become used to playing your instrument, we encourage you to go one step higher by switching to a bow with a Phernambuco stick.

● Bows with a Phernambuco stick

All our products except the Neo Brazil models use Phernambuco, the very best material for a bow. As a result, Phernambuco bows offer a distinctive sound quality, ease of use and functionality. Please start using a good, authentic bow for practicing from an early stage.

● Note on preferred model numbers:

The most preferred model numbers in the Standard Series are as follows, which many of our customers are highly satisfied with.
Violin: No. 500 is highly recommended. In this price range, the model delivers a higher quality of sound than its rank.
Viola: No. 370 is recommended. Many customers choose a Phernambuco model like this from the outset. Even a product in this price range is capable of producing the deep sound unique to the viola.
Cello: No. 450 is recommended. This is usually the best choice for children. No. 800 is recommended for quick-learning children and for adults. Success in playing the cello requires a bow with an excellent stick material.
Contrabass: No. 400 is a popular model used at schools and in brass bands. Those who are not satisfied with a school-supplied product always buy the No. 600.
Students who are aspiring to enter music college are advised to choose a M (Meister) Series or S (Sensitive) Series product.

With M class bows, stricter manufacturing standards than for popular models are applied, such as the strength of the stick material, to deliver a firm and rich sound. In terms of design specifications, the Meister Series products starting with this model are distinguished from the lower models by the use of silver hardware, which gives a professional look to the product.

● M II

When you begin to play solo in a concerto, for example, we recommend choosing a product of this level to add a firm, distinctive presence to the sound you make as a solo player.

● MⅢ · MⅣ

Once you have attained solid skills in playing the instrument, you will want the bow to be strong enough to be able to deliver a higher quality of sound or to respond to greater skill.
Thanks to the use of the highest-quality Phernambuco, these bows are designed to withstand powerful playing on any kind of instrument.

Sensitive series

The Sensitive Series bows are

made using different manufacturing

techniques from the very outset.

These are old-style handmade bows made using manufacturing techniques studied by Koji Sugito, who learnt bow manufacturing in Europe and has been involved in the manufacture of more bows than anyone else in the history of our company.
When making a Sensitive Series bow, we choose wood from among the very best Phernambuco timbers, which SUGITO BOW possesses in large quantities thanks to its long history of bow manufacturing, and we lavishly cut out only the very best part of the timber in the optimum shape. Our policy in manufacturing these bows is to make the best use of the natural excellence of the material.
“Sensitive” implies responsive. With a highly responsive bow, sound appears quickly with the movement of the bow without any momentary delay, giving players greater freedom to produce music as they wish. Besides offering excellent controllability, these bows produce sounds that excel in resonance, travel far, and are rich in quality.
In praise of these incomparable S series bows made with unique manufacturing techniques, many professional players refer to them as “a magic wand.”
The bows are also highly appreciated by older amateur players because of high controllability and the beautiful quality of sound.

● S II

Made using entirely different manufacturing techniques, these bows offer an experience unimaginable for those who are accustomed to bows made using modern manufacturing techniques. With the quick production of sound, these bows give players greater freedom in producing music the way they wish.
While the Sensitive Series used to start with SIV, lower classes including S II are available now.

● S Ⅲ •SⅣ

Advanced players should choose a bow of at least this class. At this level, the unique characteristics of Sensitive Series bows can be clearly distinguished. As for controllability, these bows are characterized by quickness in the appearance of sound, as well as by the beauty of resonances vibrating the instrument’s back board and spreading from the front board, and the capability of these vibrations to travel far.

● S X / S X art

These classes of bows are used by many professional players. The bows reflect the supreme quality of SUGITO BOW. Phernambuco of the best quality is chosen as the stick material.
In praise of these bows, players have used expressions such as “sound from another world” and “magical bow.”
By trying to be true to nature without focusing too much on weight, we succeeded in producing bows that are capable of producing outstanding sound. Besides professional players, older players who may struggle with the weight of the bow and find it difficult to play the instrument without exertion, greatly appreciate these bows which enable them to play the instrument more easily.
* The Sensitive Series bows can be made with a round type stick on request. Please consult us.
